Re1 Ng4 14. g3?! 14. h3 Qh4 15. Qf3 and white should come out on top. The difficulty in finding every correct move is one of the attractions of the variation. 14... Nxh2?! Of course black cannot take this knight because of 15/Qh4+. White's next move unfortunately refutes black's attack. Black should therefore have played 14/Qf6 15. Bd5! Bxg3!? 16. Bxa8? This is a bad mistake. After 16. fxg3 Qxd5 17. Kxh2 Bb7 black has some compensation on the long diagonal, but white should be able to defend. 16... Bxf2+ In the space of just 3 moves, white now has no pawns protecting his king! 17. Kxf2 Qh4+ 18. Kg1 18. Ke3 Bf5 and Black's king is trapped in the middle of the board 18... Qg3+ 19. Bg2 Bh3 20. Qe2?? The last chance was 20. Re2 Nf3+ 21. Kf1 Qh2 threat Qg1 mate 22. Rf2 (22. Be3 Qh1+!) 22... Qg1+ 23. Ke2 Re8+ 24. Be3 Rxe3+ 25. Kxe3 Qxd1 when black has good practical chances, given white's exposed king andundevelope d queenside 20... Bxg2 21. Qxg2 Nf3+ 22. Kh1 Qxe1+ 0-1
