Rules

pea This year's ladder will run from Thursday Sept 30th, 2005 to Thursday March 29th, 2006

pea All games will be graded and must be played with a clock.

pea Colours should be determined by a toss of a coin.

pea The time control shall be thirty moves in one hour, followed by a quick play finish with fifteen minutes added to each player's clock. These Quickplay finishes shall be governed by the B.C.F. rules currently in force.

pea The Start of Play will be at 6.45 with a 30 minute default time after which the game is deemed lost.

pea All ladder matches will be played at the Metropolitan chess club home venue.

pea The ladder will initially be ranked by BCF grades for 2005/2006

pea A player may challenge four spots above his/her current rank.

pea When a higher-ranked player A beats a lower-ranked player B, standings remain unchanged.

pea When an unranked or lower-ranked player B beats a higher-ranked player A, player B will take player A's ladder position and player A will drop one rank.

pea In the case of a draw both players will maintain their original position.

pea You must accept a challenge from a person upto 4 positions below you in the ladder within 3 weeks of the challenge. The only exception is if you have played that challenger in the previous 2 weeks.

pea Both players must complete their ladder cards correctly as soon as the game finishes and if possible email the result of the game to the controller.

pea If new players enter the ladder during the season, they may challenge anyone on the ladder. If they win then they will take that position with their opponent (and everyone else) moving down one rank. If they lose they will join the ladder in the last position. In the case of a draw the player will be placed one rank below his opponent in the ladder and everyone else will be moved down a rank.

pea Inactivity rule: On the first Thursday of the month, the ladder will checked for inactivity. If you have not played a ladder game in the last month, your rank will be reduced by one.

pea Controllers decision is final.
